Lin-ay sang Negros is Miss Western Visayas Tourism ‘09

Roxas City- Vicky Marie Milagrosa Rushton was crowned as the Miss Western Visayas Tourism 2009, besting nine other beauty titlists from Region VI held at the Capiz Gym, Dec. 5.         

        Rushton also seized major awards such as Best Festival Costume, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown. 

        Natalie Grace Roberts of the Miss Dinagyang was adjudged as 1st runner-up and was awarded as the Best in Interview. 

        Maria Aika Uy, Miss Masskara Queen 2009 landed 2nd runner-up and grabbed the Miss Congeniality Award. 

        Miss Sinadya sa Halaran, Jacqueline Kimpo proves that she has the sweetest smile by winning as the Miss Photogenic Award. 

       Other contestants of the said pageant were Ronelie Pador, Miss Ati-atihan of Aklan; Ruby Claire Lopez, Miss Binanog of the Municipality of Lambunao, Iloilo; Mary Anne Petrola, Miss Mangghan of Guimaras; Denzel Jodi Dagumampan, Miss Binirayan Festival of Antique; and Rency Custodio, Miss Paraw Regatta of Iloilo City.





WV Tourism Excellence Awards honor industry’s movers

Best of Western Visayas Tourism Awards 2009 were awarded among tourism practitioners, organizations, establishments, private and local government sectors to honor their contributions in the development and promotion of the tourism industry during the Tourism Excellence Awards Night held at the Capiz Gym, Dec. 6.

        The awards Night was also in time with the Local Government Units’ (LGU) Night dubbed as “Gab-i sang Pagpasalamat,” which is one of the province’s highlight during the Sinadya sa Halaran Festival.

Parade of Festivals to open tourism assembly ‘09

Get the chance to see the best festivals of Western Visayas all in one event!

         On December 4, 2009, the region’s famous festivals will kick-off the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly on Dec. 4, 2009, 2:30 PM, Roxas City, Capiz. The contingents expected to perform are the Kanyon Festival of Bago City, Parraw Regatta of Iloilo City, Pintabata/Pintaflores Festival of San Carlos City, Binirayan Festival of Antique, Manggahan Festival of Guimaras, Drum Betters of La Carlota, Ati-ati of Ibajay, Ati-atihan Festival of Aklan, Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo, Masskara Festival of Bacolod City, Kahilwayan of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo and Sinadya sa Halaran Festival of Roxas City.

         The parade will be followed with the opening ceremony at the Capiz Gym to be graced by the region’s local officials and government executives who are also in the province for the Regional Development Council (RDC) meeting.

        Beauty titlists who will be competing for the Miss Western Visayas Tourism will also be joining the parade and will be formally introduced to the guests and onlookers of the program. The pageant night will be on Dec. 5.

Title holders of the Department of Tourism (DOT)-recognized festivals like Miss Dinagyang, Miss Paraw Regatta, Miss Binirayan, Miss Manggahan, Miss Sinadya sa Halaran, Miss Masskara, Miss Panaad and Miss Ati-atihan will be competing for the crown of the Miss Western Visayas Tourism 2009 on Dec. 5 , Capiz Gym.

            The Miss Western Visayas Tourism is one of the major activities in the forthcoming Western Visayas Tourism Assembly slated on December 4-6 in the Villareal Stadium, Roxas City. This year’s host is the Provincial Government of Capiz which is now gearing up for the coming of the prestigious event.

CAPIZ to host Western Visayas Tourism Assembly ’09

The Provincial Government of Capiz is now firming up its preparation as the host of this year’s Western Visayas Tourism Assembly slated  Dec. 4-6.

The annual Western Visayas Tourism Assembly is a gathering of the tourism stakeholders from both the government and private sector and provides platform for exchanging and discussing critical issues of common concern, renewing ties and linakges, sharing and learning from best practice experiences, ideas and inspiring stories and marketing of new products.

This year’s assembly integrates wellness and tourism promotion and sessions on the National Tourism Act of 2009 and its impacts on domestic tourism development.

This year’s assembly theme is:“The National Tourism Act:Meeting the Challenges of Domestic Tourism.”

Proposed activities include tourism showcasing of destinations, services and facilities by local government units in the region, full gala parade of festivals to be participated in by popular festivals in the region during the opening day; tourism forum where experts will discuss new development in the industry and regional awards for outstanding and meritorious services and best practices in the industry.

Further, there will be a selection of Miss Western Visayas Tourism, food festival to be mounted by hoteliers and restaurant owners to be complemented by band concerts and fireworks display from the DOT; LGU nights to feature emerging, and discovered talents in culture and arts and invitational program for tour operators, travel agents, travel writers and photo journalists where they can stay in Capiz to feature new places, promote packages and talk to people to encourage clients to visit Western Visayas’ tourism destinations.

The three-day assembly seeks to:

  1. Provide a venue for integrating regional and local efforts at touris promotion.
  2. Recognize excellence by fostering showcase elements and tourism products.
  3. Learn and interact with expert speakers on the National Tourism Act of 2009 and its implementing Riles and Regulations.
  4. Strenthen LGU and private sector commitments to local initiatives and efforts.
